Glen Hills’ Unexpected Turn

*Linda Martin*, a resident of Glen Hills, Maryland, was going through her daily routine when she stumbled upon a news article from September 2nd, 2023. The story detailed a new policy in a foreign country's government that suddenly banned importing alcohol into the region. At first, Linda thought little of it. But as she started reading further, she found herself triggered by memories of her own struggles with alcoholism.

Within hours, Linda's mind raced back to her own battle with alcohol. She remembered the nights spent drowning her sorrows in numerous drinks, hoping to forget the pain of her troubled childhood. She had thought she had moved on, but the news brought it all back.

In the depths of her turmoil, Linda discovered the Stepping Into Action program on the Hofman and Hollis website. With no local programs available, she decided to give it a try. The first exercise required her to reflect on why she turned to alcohol. Those reflections were both painful and sobering.

One section, in particular, stood out to her: 'To understand your present, you must confront your past.' Linda took it to heart, dredging up memories she had buried long ago. She found herself improving, little by little, following the steps outlined in the program.

'Awareness is the first step to transformation,' one of the experts from the program had written. Linda carried those words with her every day.

When Linda shared her progress with her doctor, *Dr. Allen*, he praised the program but cautioned her that online solutions could sometimes lack the personal touch of a therapist. On the other hand, *Lisa*, a therapist she reached out to, was more skeptical, suggesting that face-to-face interactions were vital for true recovery.

Regardless of the conflicting opinions, Linda knew she was on the right path. She had regained control over her life. The struggle was far from over, but now she faced it head-on. The guidance she received online was transformative, and in a place where help was scarce, it became her lifeline.

As Linda reflected on her journey, she understood deeply that reaching out for help was never a mistake. The road was tough, and local support was limited, but the online program from Hofman and Hollis had been a beacon of hope in her darkest moments.
