Penciling a Path
*Sarah Jenkins had been stuck on page 87 of her novel for months. The Bursville resident thought the news article about overcoming writer's block would be just another pointless distraction, but something about the psychologists' tips resonated with her. A childhood trauma involving a fire had left Sarah with anxiety and PTSD that often manifested as an inability to make progress on her novel. The article triggered memories of having to abruptly abandon her half-written short stories as a young girl when the fire alarm went off. Intrigued by the suggestion to 'create routines' and 'know thy enemy', Sarah decided to try the Stepping Into Action program described in the article. She started scheduling regular writing sessions and began journaling about her writing obstacles. 'I had to unlearn the procrastination habit that writer's block had reinforced over the years,' *Sarah said. While one expert quoted felt breaking projects into small chunks was best, another cautioned that excessive planning could be a form of procrastination. Sarah found a balance by making tentative outlines but not overdoing it. After months of consistent work using the program's methods, Sarah completed her first draft. 'I'm grateful I didn't give up. The online tools provided structure when I felt lost, and made an overwhelming task feel achievable.'
